Michal Kwiatosz
Technical lead, data architect, and problem solver operating at the intersection of deep engineering and people leadership. Currently turning manufacturing chaos into intelligent systems at Roche.
About
Not decks. Not prototypes. Production software that people depend on, in environments where failure has consequences.

My path from intern to technical lead went through COVID-19 production ramp-ups, building data teams from zero, and digitizing manufacturing across three continents. Each role demanded a different shape: sometimes I'm writing the algorithm, sometimes I'm designing the architecture, sometimes I'm aligning the people.

Building an Operations and R&D data platform for manufacturing of a next-generation sequencing system. Connecting granular supplier data (wafers, chips, chemical processes), manufacturing execution, and quality control into a single intelligent system.
Delivered the data platform for a next-generation sequencing system that went on to set a Guinness World Record for fastest DNA read. Learn more

Factory of the future: started the digitalization effort from scratch at a manufacturing site with no existing data infrastructure, no team, and no playbook.
Took a site from zero data capability to self-serve analytics. Yield went up, manual work went down, and the team kept growing after I moved on.

COVID-19 testing ramp-up: build a data team and infrastructure from zero under extreme time pressure.
60% warehouse space reclaimed. 12 hrs/week of manual work gone. Significant financial losses caught and stopped.

First real engineering role: build a web application, wear every hat, ship something that matters.
Launched. Adopted. Still running. The beginning of everything that followed.

Philosophy
“The ultimate currency in the universe is knowledge.”
I don't build dashboards. I build systems that make people smarter about their own processes. The platform is the product only if it generates understanding.
“It's easier to work on a hard, meaningful project than a simple, meaningless one.”
The most meaningful moment isn't shipping the feature. It's when a manufacturing operator says "this actually helps me find the problem faster," or when management can finally see the full picture, or when the data reaches a patient sooner. That reaction is the fuel.
“You don't have direct access to reality - no one does.”
Every person sees the world through their own unique lens. That's not a bug, it's a superpower. In a team, the best decisions come from combining perspectives that no single person could hold alone. If you're curious about this idea, read "What Is It Like to Be a Bat?" by Thomas Nagel.
“Whether you think you can or can't do something, you're right.”
Beliefs shape capabilities more than most people realize. I've seen teams transform not because they got new tools, but because they started believing the problem was solvable. Mindset is infrastructure.
“Conflict is mostly the result of people not being understood - by others and often by themselves.”
Being open and communicating clearly isn't a soft skill. It's the hardest engineering problem in any cross-functional team. Most friction I've seen wasn't about disagreement. It was about people not feeling heard.
“Everything in this world has been created by people like you.”
No gatekeeping. I went from intern to technical lead by showing up and building things that worked. The barrier to creating something extraordinary is lower than people think.
“Team spirit wins.”
Three countries, three continents, one system. 99% positive squad reviews. The technical architecture matters less than whether the people building it actually understand each other.
